๐Ÿ  Acclimation Tips for Your New Aquarium Fish

Proper acclimation is crucial for the health and survival of your new fish. Sudden changes in water temperature, pH, or other parameters can shock your fish and lead to illness or death. Follow these simple steps to help your fish transition smoothly into their new home:

1. Turn Off Aquarium Lights

Dim the lights or turn them off completely. This reduces stress for the fish during the acclimation process.

2. Float the Bag

Place the sealed bag with the fish in your aquarium for 15โ€“30 minutes. This helps equalize the water temperature slowly and safely.

3. Open the Bag and Begin Drip Acclimation

  • Open the bag and roll down the top edge to let it float upright, or secure it in a bucket.

  • Using airline tubing, start a slow drip line from the aquarium to the bag or bucket (2โ€“4 drops per second).

  • Let the water drip for 30โ€“60 minutes, gradually doubling the volume of water in the bag or container.

4. Test the Water

Check pH, temperature, and ammonia levels to ensure the water is similar before transferring the fish.

5. Use a Net to Transfer the Fish

Gently use a soft net to move the fish into your tank. Never pour bag water into your aquarium, as it may contain contaminants or parasites.

6. Observe Closely

Monitor your new fish over the next few hours for signs of stress. It's normal for them to hide at first. Do not feed your fish right away give them atleast 12-24 hours before introducing their food.

๐Ÿงผ Pro Tip: Quarantine new fish in a separate tank for 2โ€“4 weeks before adding them to your main aquarium to prevent the spread of disease.
